Psychiatrists
Psychiatrists specialise in people’s mental health. Usually, psychiatrists specialise by disorders such as behavioural problems or personality disorders. Others specialise in people by age, such as children psychiatrists or adult psychiatrists. Psychiatrists can diagnose and treat patients, and create treatment programs or lead a group of mental health specialists by recommending treatment plans and programs for individual cases. The treatment includes both psychological treatment and medication when required.
When to see a psychiatrist
Most of the times you will be referred by your GP to see a psychiatrist, however, there are many symptoms to look out for, with the below being some of the most common:
- Change in personality
- Excessive anger, anxiety, or/and moodiness
- Isolation or social withdrawal
- Risky behaviour
- Lack of self-care
- Feeling hopeless and/or overwhelmed
Remember to always consult with your GP if you’re unsure or experiencing any issues.
