Orthoptists diagnose and treat eye movement disorders, as well as visual impairments. These impairments relate to the how the eyes interact with the brain. Thus orthoptists spot serious neurological conditions. Such as multiple sclerosis and Parkinson’s disease.
Orthoptists closely track the patient's road to recovery. And the change in their quality of life when, for instance, the orthoptist:
- heals the patient's double vision, or
- addresses their squint
