Neurologists treat disorders that affect the nervous system including nerves, spinal cord, and brain. The most common neurological disorders are Dementia and Alzheimer’s. There are a few types of neurologists that specialise in different areas of neurology, such as vascular neurology. Vascular neurologists, also known as stroke doctors, take care of patients that have suffered from a stroke or other brain blood vessel conditions.

When to see a neurologist

Usually your GP will determine whether you should see a neurologist as with any other medical professional. However there are many symptoms that can be a sign of a neurological problem, some of the most common ones include the below.

  • Poor cognitive abilities
  • Difficulty writing and reading
  • Decreased alertness
