World Bipolar Awareness Day

March 2024

March 30th is the birthday of Vincent Van Gogh. The Dutch Post-Impressionist painter is among the most famous and influential figures in the history of Western art. He was posthumously diagnosed as probably having bipolar disorder.

Bipolar disorder causes unusual shifts in mood, energy, activity levels, and the ability to carry out day-to-day tasks. Its symptoms are severe and different from the normal ups and downs that everyone goes through from time to time.

The global prevalence of bipolar disorder is between 1 and 2% and has been said to be as high as 5% according to the WHO.

The aim of the World Bipolar Day is to bring world awareness to bipolar disorders, eliminate social stigma and inform about bipolar disorders to educate and improve sensitivity towards the illness.
